A community-led conservation program in Guatemala has halted and begun to reverse twenty years of deforestation in an space severely threatened by land grabbing by cattle ranchers and drug traffickers.

Life is now returning to complete swaths of the Maya Biosphere Reserve which had been illegally cleared 13 years in the past. The regeneration of the forest signifies that it was 25 sq. kilometers bigger in 2020 than in 2019 and grew by one other 3.5 sq. kilometers in 2021. What had been the uniform pastures…
